Germany - Magdeburg to Minden

Magdeburg was under seige during the 30 Year War to end religious freedom and in 1631 the German imperial army broke through the city defences. This was known as the Sack of Magdeburg. The city was engulfed in flames and the majority of its inhabitants were smothered in the cellars and granaries where they had taken refuge.
